Do any of you know any explanations offered by Rav Hirsch for two letter verb roots? For example:
The word ben (son) is two letters. These two letters are part of the word bina (understanding), and bein (between), and boneh (build) -- these two exact letters, in this exact order. Thus there is philosophical connection between all of these particular words.
This info was sent in to me in response to the question.
ReplyDeleteR' Shlomo Pappenheim of Breslau wrote an entire sefer, חשק שלמה analyzing two letter roots, and mentions the exact connections you note between בן, בנה, and בינה
I am not sure if R' Hirsch knew of this sefer in his time, but another German rabbi, R' Yaakov Tzvi Mecklenburg certainly did, and he quotes from this and R' Pappenheim's other sefer יריעות שלמה no less than 72 times in his classic הכתב והקבלה
חשק שלמה
was recently re-published and available here or at seforim stores
